eMerge Americas 2018
April 23 - April 24
The University of Florida has announced it will continue to be a global sponsor for the eMerge Americas 2018 technology conference at the Miami Beach Convention Center on April 23 – 24. The premier technology event is a gathering hub for the world’s most influential business and government leaders from all over Latin America, North America and Europe to showcase the latest inventions and innovations.
The 2018 conference will feature prominent groundbreakers and captains of industry in innovation, entrepreneurship and public policy. Renowned Latin American speakers include President of LATAM Microsoft Cėsar Cernuda, Vice President of Facebook and Instagram in Latin America Diego Dzodan, Chief Operating Officer for Venmo Michael Vaughan, Vice President of the IBM Watson IoT Platform Veeru Ramaswamy, and more.
In addition to UF sponsoring the event, UF’s Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Associate Professor Patrick Traynor will be one of the main stage speakers discussing cybersecurity. The panel, titled “Redesigning Security,” will feature security executives from corporations, and Professor Traynor, the John H. and Mary Lou Dasburg Preeminent Chair in Engineering, who also serves as a co-director of the Florida Institute for Cybersecurity Research. Traynor helped develop CryptoDrop, now a UF licensed Technology which can detect and stop ransomware attacks quickly thereby preventing users from having to pay a ransom or risk losing large amounts of data.
“Attackers around the world are becoming increasingly sophisticated, putting any company with an online presence at risk,” warned Professor Traynor. “Strong partnerships with universities are critical for delivering the cutting-edge defenses needed to protect modern systems,” he continued.
Traynor will be discussing cybersecurity dilemmas of the 21st century and trends that all business managers and operators across sectors – be it financial service providers or high-tech product manufacturers, or government bodies – must be fully prepared to embrace.
“As one of the nation’s leading research universities in technology transfer, UF is pleased to engage with colleagues from around the world in driving the next generation of life-changing technology through the eMerge Americas 2018 technology conference,” said Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Joe Glover.
eMerge Americas 2018 engages thousands for the sole purpose of connecting attendees from around the world to immerse themselves in the latest innovations through four panel discussions. This includes the main stage that’s set up for interactive presentations and inspiring keynote speakers, the eGov Stage that brings together top government officials, the Women, Innovation & Technology Summit (WIT) that aims to motivate, inspire and empower its attendees and the LaunchPad that provides a platform for innovators who are pushing for a new frontier and changing the way we live.
