Florida Researchers Discover Potentially Lethal Parasite in Florida

Researchers from the University of Florida have discovered the rat lungworm, a parasite that can lead to meningitis, in many people and animals in five counties throughout the state of Florida. Rats and snails in Alachua, Leon, St. Johns, Orange, and Hillsborough counties have been the main animals the parasite has been linked to according to a study by researchers in the UF college of Veterinary Medicine. The research was completed at the Florida Museum of Natural History.
