UF MBA and CFA Society Miami Hosted Networking Reception at UF Coral Gables
University of Florida MBA Program and the CFA Society Miami hosted a networking reception at the UF Coral Gables office on Thursday, May 4th for an evening with finance industry professionals and Gator alumni. Students attending the event were able to meet with finance professionals to uncover what it’s like to work in different areas of the finance industry to promote success in their future careers.
The event included networking, introduction and remarks by guest speakers and questions from student attendees.

Juan A. Galan, Jr.
Juan Galan received a BS in Industrial Engineering from University of Florida in 1966 with all electives in business courses. He worked for RCA Information Systems for two years, followed by a year at Deloitte in client computer systems, and then three years at the US Coast Guard in Data Systems Command in Washington, DC, developing and installing the Nationwide Search and Rescue Reporting System. After receiving his MSA in Business in 1972 from George Washington University, Juan returned to Deloitte working in computer systems, eventually specializing in serving banks, S&L’s, cement companies, hospitals and more. Juan became Director in 1980 and Managing Director in 1983, growing their practice to over 50 consultants in three offices (Miami, Tampa, and San Juan). Juan was one of seven Managing Directors and part of the National Consulting Executive Management/Strategy team. Juan and his team worked with Miller Brewing Company and they negotiated a buy-out of the Miami and Florida Keys distributor in 1986. Juan currently enjoys non-profit volunteer work, boating and traveling (he has visited over 135 countries).
Meredith “Moe” Brown, Vice President, Banker

Meredith “Moe” Brown is a Vice President of J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Miami. In her current role, Meredith provides institutional-like coverage for individuals and families; leveraging the full power of J.P. Morgan Chase to preserve wealth and fulfill charitable intent over multiple generations. The complex nature of her clients’ needs span across investments, lending, banking and trust & estate solutions. Meredith joined J.P. Morgan Private Bank in 2013 as a strategic market planner covering the Southeastern U.S. and D.C. Regions. In this capacity, Meredith developed market-specific programming that focused on thematic investment strategies, philanthropic giving, government relations, and the macro-economy. Prior to J.P. Morgan, Meredith managed and executed bench trials across the nation as a litigation consultant at TrialGraphix, a South-Florida based litigation support firm. Since joining J.P. Morgan in 2013, Meredith has served as a J.P. Morgan Chase Global Ambassador. Meredith earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts from The University of Florida, graduating Summa Cum Laude and with Highest Honors, respectively. Additionally, she maintains active Series 7 and 63 licenses.
Mr. Andrew Fehretdinov, CFA, Chief Financial Officer
Incentive Technology Group, LLC
Mr. Fehretdinov has over 15 years of financial management and accounting experience. Mr. Fehretdinov is currently the CFO of Incentive Technology Group, LLC, a 300-employee company focused on providing application development solutions to Federal agencies and fortune 500 firms. Mr. Fehretdinov oversees Finance, Accounting, HR and other back office operations at ITG. Prior to joining ITG, Mr. Fehretdinov was an equity partner and Vice President of Finance for DMI Inc., a $400M-revenue IT Services provider, where he was responsible for mergers and acquisitions, budgeting/forecasting and contract negotiations. Prior to DMI, Mr. Fehretdinov was a Director of Finance at SystemsNet, Inc., where he spearheaded M&A due diligence efforts as part of a private equity-backed portfolio company. Mr. Fehretdinov started his career at J.P. Morgan as an investment banking analyst in the Equity Capital Markets Group in Hong Kong, followed by an investment banking role at Bear, Stearns & Co., Inc., in New York, and a subsequent analyst role at J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Washington, DC. Mr. Fehretdinov obtained a BSBA degree in Finance/Accounting from Georgetown University and an MBA from the University of Florida. Mr. Fehretdinov is a CFA Charterholder.
Michael J. Firestone, CFA, Managing Director, Portfolio Manager

Mr. Firestone is responsible for managing individual, trust and foundation portfolios at Fiduciary Trust. Mr. Firestone is a member of the Equity Strategy Committee and has research responsibility for the Energy and Utilities sectors as well as Master Limited Partnerships. Mr. Firestone joined Fiduciary Trust International of the South in 2010. He earned a B.S., cum laude, in Finance and Real Estate and a Master’s of Science in Finance from Florida State University. Mr. Firestone is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder and the President of the CFA Society of Miami. Mr. Firestone is active in the local community. He serves as Vice Chairman on the board of the Young Leaders Group for Camillus House, an organization whose mission is to help and rehabilitate the homeless.
Galey Gravenstein, South Florida Regional Director, Vice President

In her role as a Regional Director and Vice President for Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Ms. Gravenstein caters to the needs of independent broker dealer financial advisors and registered investment advisors throughout North, Central and South Florida. As part of a long-term consultative approach in gaining partnership with the aforementioned clientele, she assists with portfolio construction, personalized value propositions, Private Alternatives, Structured Notes, ETF’s and 40 Act Funds. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Gravenstein worked in Asset Management with Franklin Templeton Investments based out of San Mateo, California, where she served as a Regional Consultant managing a territory in Southern Michigan. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida where she was also a Division I Track & Field and Cross-Country letter winner.
Melissa McGrane, Founding Partner, Portfolio Manager

Melissa McGrane is a founding partner and portfolio manager at Investment Analytics Miami. Investment Analytics Miami is an SEC-registered investment advisor focused on global equity portfolio management which uses proprietary fundamental risk and return models and rule-based stock selection and portfolio construction techniques. Previously, Melissa spent 15 years in a variety of research and investment positions at William Blair and Company including quantitative strategy and portfolio management, fundamental equity research, and fixed income. Prior experience also includes trading and operations. Melissa earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BA from Coe College. She is a CFA Charterholder and a member of the CFA Society Miami and of the Chicago Quantitative Alliance (CQA).
